A new multi-transport pass for Brussels and its surroundings planned for 2019
A JUMP+ ticket, as well as an MTB+ pass, that allow travel within all the public transport operators SNCB, Stib, TEC and De Lijn will be available by the middle of 2019.
The plan is to have it ready by the beginning of September, in an area including the Region-Capital and a periphery extending up to 11.5 kilometers, announced in the House of Representatives the chairman of the steering committee for the RER, Jean-Pierre Hansen.
The decision was endorsed on November 30th in the same committee and will be finally validated on Monday by the Executive Committee of Ministers of Mobility. It implements a proposed project in 2006.
Jean-Pierre Hansen made the point on Wednesday in the Committee on Infrastructure of the House on the evolution of the RER file.
He also restated his proposal –already made by Minister of Mobility François Bellot– to create an “RER agency” which, independently of the state entities, could work with an accelerated decision-making process, not being subject to the rule of unanimity.
Emphasizing the autonomy of the entities, MP N-VA Inez De Coninck, however, indicated that she was not in favor of such delegation of powers. The CD & V is hardly more excited. “I understand Mr Bellot’s initiative, but if there is no demand from the Regions, there is little point in creating yet another mobility structure,” said Van den Bergh.
