For this new edition of “L’heure d’hiver” a focus on Iranian Cinema is offered at CINEMA GALERIES but also in other places in Brussels. The opportunity to dive into the heart of this thriving cinema of singular authors and filmmakers who wonder more than ever about the world and men…
Meetings, unpublished, tributes, performances, exhibitions. A program full of good things, a multidisciplinary event that will warm the winter.
What does Tehran look like? How do people move in the city? How are they living there? How do social classes mix? How does the presence of women fit into the public space? What are the traces of the past, the history of the country, its identity? And how does the city plan for the future?
First impression ? Intimidating. In the street, the Iranian capital is teeming with youth, congested with traffic jams and noisy until late at night. In the city is mingled nostalgia for the shah and worship of Ayatollah Khomeini.
In short, Tehran is brimming with life. The chador is a minority in the north of the city, but there are frequent young women with low veiled, makeup and a small bandage on the nose. The emergence of Californian-style cosmetic surgery in a well-known Islamic Republic is surprising. Yet this tension between modernity and conservatism illustrates the ambiguous relationship between recent history and the Iranian reality.
As the Iranian political news of the beginning of January emerges in our media, that concern is growing about the stability of a country and its relations with other major world powers, it is the the story of the people living there whose testimony we want to make here.
It will take no less than a month and thirty films to discover the capital of Iran and the people who live there. The festival will be divided into 4 major themes:
“The cinema as resistance: new forms to circumvent the laws”
“Iran between modernization and tradition”
“Where are the women? selection made by Fery Malek Madani (Art Cantara) «
“Being Afghan in Teheran”
Among the selected films of the unpublished: Writing on the city will open the festival with a meeting of the director Keywan Karimi.
