Baby Jesus of the Grand Place was stolen

Baby Jesus of the Grand Place was stolen last Thursday night and a police investigation was opened.

The Christmas nativity scene, which has been on the Grand Place since 24 November, was vandalized on the Thursday evening.

The police station of Brussels-Capital Ixelles reported that “An investigation has been opened, and there have been degradations on the fence of the nursery,” says Ilse Van de Keere, spokesperson for the area.

The small statue of the Divine Child had already disappeared in 2014, carried away by activists to protest against Charles Michel’s government.

It is still too soon to know if this is a new act of protest or pure vandalism. The authors left no message.

Philippe Close announced on Twitter that the Grand Place nativity scene has a new baby Jesus.
