Belgian short films “May Day” and “Icare” have been shortlisted for the Oscars

The Belgian short films “May Day” and “Icare” appear on the shortlist (pre-selection) for the Oscars. All nominees will be announced on Tuesday, while the awards’ ceremony will be held February 24th at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

“May Day”, directed by Olivier Magis and Fedrik De Beul, and produced by Eklektik Productions, takes place in Brussels where several people who do not know each other have come to find a job quickly. But nothing goes as planned.

Produced by HĂ©licotronc, Nicolas Boucart’s “Icare” takes the viewer to a tiny island crowned with steep cliffs, where a single house stands.

Obsessed by the dream that man can one day fly like a bird, an inventor experiments his machines and recruits Joseph, 11, to reach his dreams.

The shortlist currently includes 10 films. This number will be reduced to 5 on Tuesday.

“Girl” by Lukas Dhont is not among the 9 films selected for Best Foreign Language Film.
