Bourse-Grand Place station has a new look: an artistic space, parking for bikes, and more
The new Bourse-Grand Place station inauguration took place yesterday. The station has been renamed Bourse-Grand Place at the request of the Mayor of the City of Brussels because of its location. The station rests 200 meters from the highly touristic Grand Place.
After 2 years of work, the new station now houses a large parking space for bicycles, an artistic space that will host temporary exhibitions and a repair point for the “little queen” which will open in March. The new artistic space “Qartier” opened its doors in the evening with an exhibition.
Overall accessibility, lighting and security have been improved. In addition to the old sic entrances, accessibility of the station is no guaranteed by the two main entrances which were added. A large additional elevator was also added in consideration of people with reduced mobility and special bicycles.
The renovation also considered the importance of safety and the comfort of travelers. The station is equipped with surveillance cameras, and public toilets.
The parking space for bicycles is located on level -1. It has a capacity of 194 free access places and offers 610 places for classic bicycles and 18 for cargo bikes. This section is easily accessible via the stairs or the elevator. However, you must register through the Cyclo Parking website.
The inauguration took place in the presence of the Infrastructure Committee of the Brussels Parliament. Several activities were organized throughout the day for the general public, in collaboration with Ancienne Belgique, and a cycling association.
