In Brussels there are 92 containers to dispose of used oils

The City of Brussels continues to collect used oil: the entire municipality will receive 92 containers. In these red containers (‘Olioboxes’) people may leave used frying oils and fats at any time.

The collection started as a pilot project at the Anneessens and Neder-Over-Heembeek quarters. In 4 months, 7,775 liters of used oil were collected. Because of this success, the pilot project is now being extended to the other quarters of the City of Brussels.

Used frying fats and oil

The red containers, called Oliobox, will be located next to glass containers. They can store up to 240 liters of oil and food fats. You only have to deposit your oil in a sealed package. The collected oil is then converted into biofuel: the vegetable oil is converted into biodiesel, the waste from the frying fats is converted into biogas. The packaging, usually plastic bottles, is cleaned and recycled.
