Jazz roots in Molenbeek

The expression “jazz roots” was invented 15 years ago by Brother Swing to stress the difference between the different sorts of jazz dance. It refers to a type of jazz dance developed during the swing years (from 1920 to 1930) and to the Afro-American dance, which comes from a mix of African dances and Charleston. Jazz roots  had a great influence in the process of music and dance evolution: in fact, it can be considered the main influence, the source of origin for the modern funk and hip-hop.

You may not have directly experienced jazz roots so far, but -most certainly- you may have seen it in a movie, at a live performance or even in a club!

Jazz still greatly influence our taste and our relation with music and for this reason, it could be interesting to get an overall insight into that. Brass’Art Digital Café will hold a first jazz root event in Molenbeek on Saturday 21st of October, from 8.00 pm to midnight. What a better opportunity for discovering the past than swinging to the rhythm of the Roaring Twenties?
