New SNCB’s trains equipped with cameras will film passengers in real time to improve safety

SNCB has announced that it will deliver new generation double-decked trains in March 2017.

These new trains will be equipped with surveillance cameras that will film passengers in real time. The reason being to improve safety as these surveillance cameras will be consulted only in cases of necessity or incidents.

The recordings will be transmitted live to the SNCB Security Operation Center, which can be highly proactive and responsive in the event of an incident.

It is expected that 445 new trains will consist of 3,000 surveillance cameras.

The SNCB Desiro trains are already equipped with surveillance cameras. However, these CCTV camera footage are stored directly on a hard drive. They cannot be accessed remotely and the footage is only kept for a week.
