Plastic bags forbidden on markets

Since the 1st September 2017, in the framework of the Zero Plastic Campaign, plastic disposable bags are forbidden on the markets of the City of Brussels. This measure, which is part of a regional regulation, was previously applicable to the largest markets in the City, at the Chaussée d’Anvers and Bockstael.

The merchants received written information about the regulation last summer. Information campaigns are being organized on the markets in the coming weeks. After an adjustment period, traders who continue to hand out non-regulatory plastic bags may expect a municipal administrative fine.
