3rd edition of Belle Hip Hop Festival comes to Brussels for International Women’s Day

The third edition of the festival “La Belle Hip Hop”, which is dedicated to women, will take place on March 8th, International Women’s Day. Artists from eight countries are invited, until March 15, to present their know-how in eight locations in the capital, including Botanique, Saint-Louis University and Espace Magh.

Hip Hop is a cultural movement that essentially combines four modes of expression: rap, dj’ing, dance and graffiti. The roots of Hip-Hop are American and masculine but more and more women find it a discipline of their choice.

The program alternates concerts, debates, events and performances. There will be artists from Indonesia, France, Italy, Mexico, Tunisia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United States, the United Kingdom and, of course, Belgium.

On the theme “Sister Yes Sister”, the festival plans to participate in the fight against violence against women, as well as misogyny, “even if less pervasive in Hip Hop than in the world of politics and business”.

It also wants to work for cultural development and equal opportunities, while breaking stereotypes and conveying a message of unity in diversity.
