Tangla Hotel offers goal-den deal to celebrate the world cup

The World Cup beckons and a leading Brussels hotel has come up with a “goal-den” idea to help celebrate this summer’s big sporting event.

The Tangla Hotel is running a promotion during the tournament that starts later this week that’s sure to score with football fans. All televised games will be shown live on a big screen in the hotel’s bar/lounge and for every purchased beer you’ll get another standard one completely free of charge. To accompany this, there’ll be a nice selection of fingerfood available.

The promotion, which also includes some “World Cup cocktails”, runs from 14 June to 15 July  all makes for a great way to follow your favourite country in very pleasant surroundings. While doing so, you should consider also paying a visit to the hotel’s « Le Cinq » on-site restaurant which offers a great Euro/Asian buffet.

Adjacent to the bar, it also operates a monthly « food festival » (every Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 7pm-10.30pm) which has a different theme each month. In May, it celebrated the best of Belgium cuisine.

The current theme (June) is conveniently summery (a BBQ on the outside terrace). July’s theme is provisionally due to be all about Mediterranean food.

Aside from the monthly specials, the buffet itself is excellent with a lot of the food coming from locally sourced food producers. In the evenings, you can also avail yourself of live Teppanyaki cooking by the Chinese-born chef. You can watch as he cooks your food in front of you from a grill in the centre of the restaurant. There is always a choice of four dishes (meat and fish are a mainstay) with others like scampi, tofu and calamari occasionally making an appearance.

The food is infused with some wonderful sauces/spices but he also stresses the importance of ensuring that one is not overwhelmed by the other.“The idea,” he explains through an interpreter, “is to achieve the right balance.

The buffet fayre is also tasty and includes, of course, Dim Sum, two different types of soup, rice, sushi items, salads and some “European” dishes too such as Italian pasta. The buffet, albeit with a smaller selection, is also available  at lunchtime.

The midweek trade is more reliant on the many businesses (plus the UCL university) which are situated locally while  it is more leisure-based at weekends.  But, irrespective of when you visit, you can be assured of a  very pleasant dining experience, in relaxing and informal surroundings.

If you fancy a nice, lazy Sunday brunch Tangla also does this (every Sunday, from noon to 3pm). This is priced at €49 and also includes a glass of sparkling wine (children between 6 and 12 years enjoy 50 per cent off the brunch price while toddlers under the age of 5 eat for free).

While not in the centre of Brussels, the hotel is, nonetheless, just a short 15 minute metro ride from the city and (another plus) there is plenty of parking available.

With the World Cup upon us, there’s no better place to enjoy good food this summer.Open 7/7.
