Carrefour to stop having automated cashiers

Carrefour had previously announced that it is planning to bring a new concept to Brussels, cashless stores.

However, they have now recently announced that they are abandoning this project.

Carrefour had planned to open a fully automated 24-hour operating shop near the Grand Place in Brussels. The shop was supposed to operate without a cash register. Costumers could place online orders and then collect their purchases.

Marco Demerling, spokesperson for Carrefour Belgium, stated: “For technical and logistical reasons, we can not continue this project. The general tests which were conducted did not provide the expected guarantees”.
