CATS: The International Hit Musical comes to Brussels

The musical classic CATS by Andrew Lloyd Webber is coming to Belgium for one week only this spring. A special performance of the hit musical will be staged at the Brussels Palais 12 on the occasion of the venue’s fifth anniversary from 19 to 24 March 2019. Especially for CATS, a part of Palais 12 will be converted into a suitable musical theatre. This represents a unique gesture towards Belgium in celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 70th birthday, at the same time marking the fifth anniversary of Palais 12.

Welcoming the London West End production to Brussels is a very memorable occasion. The singing and dancing cats were in huge demand in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s jubilee year. Naturally the shows will be subtitled in Dutch and French so you can easily follow the dialogue.

No other musical has been so full of energy and thrills for more than 35 years.

CATS premiered in London’s West End in May 1981, marking the beginning of a victory march that is still going strong after the better part of four decades. Meanwhile more than 81 million people in over 350 cities in 20 different countries have seen the production. The show captivates audiences of all ages and cultures. The CATS cast and crew consists of no fewer than 57 artists and technicians whose commitment brings a colourful explosion of energy onto the stage. For decades, the musical has been moving and exhilarating audiences the world over.

The story

The timeless story of CATS moves both young and old: it takes place on the most special evening of the year when the Jellicle tribe of cats celebrate their big ball. Tonight Old Deuteronomy will chose one of the cats to be reborn into a new cat life. Grizabella, the glamour cat who has travelled the world for several years, has come home this very evening. She would love to get in touch with her family again, but she is disappointed to find out that they are not interested in seeing her. The cats’ party is cruelly interrupted when the evil Macavity kidnaps Old Deuteronomy. The cats join forces to free their leader and the wise old tomcat chooses Grizabella to be reborn.
