Flemish Minister of Mobility threatens to move De Lijn away from Gare du Nord

According to the Flemish Minister of Mobility, Ben Weyts, Gare du Nord is no longer able to accommodate the De Lijn bus service under the current circumstances.

Minister Weyts stated that Gare du Nord is considered both unsafe and dirty. The situation has worsened as migrants have taken refugee at the station. This has lead to accumulation of waste, excreta, improvised sleeping places as well as several security incidents. All these issues combined have been blocking access to the platforms.

If Brussels authorities fail to intervene on time, De Lijn will not provide their services anymore as their staff and travelers no longer feel safe

The minister proposed the installation of a bus terminal outside of Gare du Nord, however, the planning permission has yet to be accepted by the Brussels Region.
