Is party over ?

Do you remember all the crazy and drunk nights you spent in the Ixelles ponds, up and around until early morning on Saturday and Sunday? Until now, you were able to party and have drinks around the ponds, the Sainte-Croix square and the rue du Belvédère at night. After some incidents took place and some drunk people disrespected the neighbourhood, the mayor of Ixelles, Dominique Dufourny, decided to ban alcohol after 2.00 am in the public area. A certain number of incivilities and minor offences have justified such a decision, she explained.

The measure also applies to the bars that are required to close all their terraces at 2.00 am. Although most of them used to comply with such a rule before it became binding, they will definitely pay more attention to their drunk customers who loudly smoke outside.

While the news has made the social networks very reactive, and many people publicly pointed out the fact that this new measure will have a major impact on parties in Ixelles, the commune decided to adopt a pedagogic and comprehensive approach. If you have had some parties in the neighbourhood last weekend, you might have been asked to stop drinking by policemen. Nonetheless, the public authorities will use repression over the coming weeks if the people do not comply with this new measure.

The commune of Ixelles also mentioned that this “alcohol ban” might be extended to all Flagey, in case it is needed.
