visit.brussels Awards 2019: nine Brussels initiatives rewarded

This Thursday 4 April, nine Brussels cultural and tourism initiatives that marked the past year 2018 were rewarded at the visit.brussels Awards Ceremony & Networking Night. The winners were elected by the general public and by a jury of tourism professionals.

Many Brussels stakeholders contribute to the worldwide renown of the capital of Europe through their day-to-day work and original initiatives. The aim of the visit.brussels Awards is to encourage and reward the projects that have most contributed to Brussels’ image.

The event was held at KANAL in the Pompidou Centre. After the general public selected the three finalists of each category from among 86 projects, the jury of tourism professionals elected the winners based on the following criteria: the impact of the projects on tourism in Brussels, their international influence, their originality, their sustainability as well as their accessibility to persons of limited mobility.

Here are the nine winners of the 2019 visit.brussels Awards:

  • “EVENING EXPERIENCE 2018”
    A concept that has contributed to the rich variety of evenings in Brussels. Winner: FESTEN
  • “MOST NOTED EXHIBITION 2018”
    A major exhibition that has enhanced Brussels’ cultural and tourist prestige. Winner: Smurf Experience
  • “INTERNATIONAL EVENT 2018”
    A major event or international show organised in Brussels for the general public. Winner: Festival UP ! Internationale Circusbiënnale
  • “INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS & FAIR 2018”
    Congress or big international event organised in Brussels for professionals. Winner: TALES@home -Talking About Language and EmotionS at Home
  • “BEST GASTRONOMIC CONCEPT 2018”
    Gastronomic activity, event or concept that has enriched the Brussels’ tourist offering. Winner: Le Tour du Monde en 183 assiettes
  • “NEW EVENT & TOURIST LOCATION 2018”
    Opening or renovation of a location that is vital for Brussels’ image as a place for tourism and events.
    Winner: KANAL- Centre Pompidou
  • “HOTEL NEWCOMER 2018”
    New concept, innovation or renovation in the Brussels hotel world. Winner: Harmon House
  • “PUBLIC INITIATIVE 2018”

    Initiative by a public entity or similar (parastatal organisations, any of the 19 communes, regional agencies, etc.) that has contributed to the promotion of tourism in the region of our capital.
    Winner: Rénovation de la station de la Bourse

    “UNEXPECTED & ORIGINAL CONCEPT 2018”

    Innovative, original project contributing to the tourist image of Brussels, the concept of which does not fit into any other category.
    Winner: Magritte. Atomium meets Surrealism
