Vox Populi: Silvij Šeparović from Zagreb, Croatia

1. What are your expectations/hopes from these elections?

I find quite accurate the surveys that show the rise of populism and possibility of completely different dynamics in EP that would push the strongest groups to form new alliances. I see that outcome as an opportunity to get over or fix the flaws of the existing procedures and push for stronger and clearer confrontation with the examples of unacceptable policies.

2. Do you/people in your member state still have faith in the EU to deliver?

I do and I think there are quite a bit of people who do believe. However there are again a lot of those who are attributing the failures of our own society and state to the EU, not knowing much about it. I consider these elections crucial and see it as an opportunity for the truly European forces to galvanise… by the probable considerable gains of populist and anti EU parties.

3. Will you be voting? If so, who for (if you are willing to say)?

Yes, I will definitely. My vote will definitely NOT go to populists and Christian Democrats. I am still waiting to see the lists – it can go to Socialists or Greens.

4. Tell us some very brief persona/biographical details about yourself?

Female in fifties. Working in media, interested in politics, disgusted by the rise of populism and radical right.
