De Lijn launches the first trambus in Belgium

Do you remember when the first trambus in Belgium made its maiden trip?

The Flemish transport company De Lijn has expanded its fleet with 14 hybrid vehicles. Starting from December you can travel between Brussels Expo and Brussels Airport using the trambus.

The tram bus will tempt commuters to leave the car more often and switch to public transport.

From December the tram buses commute on bus line 820 between Brussels Airport and the Brussels University Hospital in Jette. They run via Brucargo, the station and the center of Vilvoorde, the Kassei district, the employment zone around the Medialaan, Koningslo, Strombeek and the Heyselvlakte.

« With the comfort and capacity of a tram and the flexibility of a bus, the tram bus is a striking newcomer to the streets. Due to its length of 24 meters, this vehicle approaches the feeling of space of a tram: there is room for 137 travelers, but also for prams, luggage or bicycles. The 4 wide doors and the low floor, in combination with accessible stops, ensure that travelers can get on and off quickly. The double articulated tram bus guarantees modern comfort and a pleasant driving experience, » writes De Lijn.
