Eden Hazard – Red Devil of the Year

Chelsea’s midfielder was elected Red devil of the Year by the Belgian supporters earlier this week. Hazard finished ahead of former Chelsea team-mates Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, who were second and third respectively.

There is no doubt about Hazard’s talent and skills. Over the past years, he led Chelsea to two national titles (2015 and 2017) and was elected best player of the Barclays Premier League in 2015. If he is not subject to any injury until the end of the current season, he is a strong candidate to be one of the major attractions of the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

Eden Hazard was born in La Louvière, on January, 7 1991 (he will then celebrate his 27th anniversary this Sunday). He started his career in the local team Braine-Le-Comte, followed by AFC Turbize, and at the age of 14 he moved to Lille, France.

Eden played his first Ligue 1 game in 2007 and scored for the first time on September 20, 2008. He filled a very successful 2008/2009 season and won the “Young Player of the Year” award.

In 2010-2011, Eden Hazard became a key player at Lille. This season, Lille won both the French Cup and  the French Championship. Eden was elected “UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the year”. He also won that award the year after.

He then took a step forward by signing a contract with Chelsea, although, according to the rumours, he was supposed to join Manchester United. The transfer fee reached 45 million Euros.

At Chelsea’s, Eden kept on growing and won several awards. Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013, the Championship in 2015 and 2017, as well as the League Cup in 2015. His peers awarded him with the “PFA Player of the Year” in 2015. He was also ranked 8th at the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015.

During the Euro 2016 in France, he was the best passer of the tournament. Hazard enjoyed an excellent year for club and country, by captaining Belgium to World Cup qualification in the absence of the injured Vincent Kompany.

Although he is still quite a young player, Eden is very ambitious. Few days ago, his father expressed Eden’s wish to join Real Madrid. It seems Madrid is willing to spend more than 130 million Euros.
