Prominent Belgian politician Philippe Moureaux passed away at 79 – Molenbeek pays him tribute

Philippe Moreaux passed away at the age of 79 on Saturday, 15 December. He was known as one of the leading figures of Belgian politics. He became Minister of the Interior in 1980 and that is when he became highly involved in politics. He was also Minister at the Federal between 1981 and 1993 and also Minister-President of the French Community between 1981 to 1985. He served as Deputy-Prime-Minister and Minister of the Brussels Region from 1988 to 1991. Philippe Moureaux was the Mayor of Molenbeek from 1993 to 2012.

The municipality Molenbeek-Saint-Jean announced the opening of a register of condolences following the death of their former-mayor. This register will be available to citizens at the municipal administration, located at Rue Comte de Flandre 20, during the opening hours of the offices from Monday, 17 December at 10:00.

The communal council announced that a final tribute may be paid to Mr. Moureaux  on Tuesday, 18 December from 09:00 to 16:00 at the Salle des Pas Perdus of the Communal house of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, at the same address.
