Winner of two international street music festivals, the dynamic duo joins Fete de la Musique to play quality funk and to enchant the public with their energy.
Year by year the Festival of Music brings something different, adds something new to its programme. This year many more venues will open their doors and welcome international and Belgian bands. One of these venues is the Balassi Institute (10 Treurenberg, 1000 Brussels), where on 21 June from 7 PM the Transylvanian power duo, the band FunkYou! will perform an exceptional funk concert.
The band came to life in 2018 with the goal to play on a street music festival, to use the first prize to finance the 3rd album of the symphonic progressive rock band Yesterdays.
After winning two festivals (Satu Mare StreetMusic Festival Romania and Veszprém Streetmusic Festival Hungary) and due to their success they decided to go on with the project and to form a new band, to play more and to record a mini album.
Their strength is that they love what they do. Each time they present a very dynamic show (be it on streets or on stages in clubs and festivals), a two piece band covering lots of positive vibes and frequencies. The basic aim is to play “unknown” music, so the audience’s attention won’t be grabbed by the well-known hits, but by the quality music and the vibrant mood of the duo. Their original songs were written in this manner, following this ars poetica.
The dynamic duo is a perfect match, covering all the roles of a regular full band. Stephanie sings and plays percussion, Ákos plays guitar, sings backing vocals, uses beatboxing techniques, guitar loops, strange effects, so his guitar sounds like a guitar and a bass guitar in the same time.
Stephanie Semeniuc studies music pedagogy in Kolozsvár / Cluj and as singer of several formations, jazz and funk are her favourite styles. She plans to continue her studies on the Music Academy and to play, sing and perform as much as possible.
Ákos Bogáti-Bokor creatively combines his roots in funk/pop and progressive rock in his 5 LPs. He worked for 5 years as host at Radio Paprika in Cluj and now he teaches guitar and works as a cultural programmer.
Together they form FunkYou!, a band full with energy, swing and groove.
Come to the Balassi Institute for an unforgettable experience: quality funk and dynamic interactive stage presence is guaranteed.
