Political turmoil: The King stopped the consultations with political parties – Talks to be resumed on Thursday

The King interrupted his consultations on Wednesday to attend a Christmas conceret at the Palais the Bruxelles. In the morning he received the presidents of the cdH, Benoît Lutgen, and Open Vld, Gwendolyn Rutten, and, in the afternoon, the presidents of the N-VA, Bart De Wever, and the PS, Elio Di Rupo.

He will resume the consultations on Thursday morning.

In the meantime, the Head of State will attend the Christmas concert given at the Palais de Bruxelles in recognition of all those who contributed to the smooth running of the royal activities during the year.

Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister, Charles Michel, left the House to go to the King and submit the resignation of his government. The Palace announced that the King was putting its decision on hold.

On Wednesday morning, the traditional consultations of party presidents began. Many of them have not been received yet. On Thursday, at 9 am, it will be the turn of the president Groen, Meyrem Almaci, followed at 10:15 by the co-presidents of Ecolo, Zakia Khattabi and Jean-Marc Nollet, and at 11:30 of the president of the sp.a, John Crombez.

Thursday, the House will meet in plenary session. In particular, it will have to approve the finance law that authorizes the government to use provisional twelfths to ensure the day-to-day management of the state.
