Competition in search of the best Brussels prawn croquette

On October 22, 2018 visit.brussels will hold the first competition in Brussels to find the best prawn croquette.

visit.brussels is organising the first competition in Brussels dedicated to the queen of Belgian gastronomy: the famous prawn croquette. On 22 October, a jury of food journalists, chaired by Pierre Wynants, will pick the best one in a blind tasting at the restaurant Comme Chez Soi.

Entries were open throughout September via social media. To take part in the competition, participants had to fit the following criteria: to have an active establishment, cafeteria, bar or food truck in the Brussels Capital Region and to have home-made prawn croquettes on the menu.

More then 20 chefs entered the competition, all ready to show off their talents in making this delicious, typically Belgian dish. On Monday 22 October, they will head to the Comme Chez Soi kitchens to make their own version of the prawn croquette.

A jury composed of food journalists will use a grid to score the dishes they taste. Points will be awarded for criteria such as the crispiness, flavour and the quality of the prawns.

The winner of this first edition will be revealed at Comme Chez Soi on Monday 22 October at 5 pm. They will be able to use the title “best prawn croquette in Brussels” until next year’s edition of the competition.
